"Take an imaginary trip across the Atlantic and enjoy some delicious Mediterranean-style food at Tip of the Boot, 475 High Mountain Road, North Haledon.

But first a little geography lesson may be in order to explain the unique name of this popular restaurant. Italy is often referred to as being shaped "like a boot." At the tip of the boot is the island of Sicily in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. It is the wonderful cuisine of the Mediterranean that customers have come to enjoy over and over again at Tip of the Boot.

Chef Ron Ossi creates some spectacular soups, specialty pastas, veal, chicken, beef, and pork dishes. Start off with Tip of the Boot's famous Fried Calamari acclaimed to be "the best in North Jersey." Or choose from among a variety of other appetizers including Mussels Marinara. (The menu cautions "Don't ask me the secret, I'll never tell.)

There are plenty of pasta dishes that will tempt your tastebuds. Or perhaps you prefer one of the delicious veal, chicken, steak or pork entrees cooked to perfection. In addition to the popular Parmigiano, Francese, Piccata, and Marsala veal and chicken dishes, there are such savory entrees as Veal Saltimboca (prosciutto, spinach, artichoke hearts, mozzarella in a sage brown sauce); Chicken Napoletana (peppers, onion, potato and mushrooms in a "naturale" sauce); and Pork Chops Umbriago (with shitake mushrooms in a "secret" sauce).

Steak lovers can choose from a 10 oz. Steak and Shrimp entree, Steak Oreganata, Steak Siciliana, and Sliced Steak over Garlic Bread. Be sure to leave room for Tip of the Boot's delicious homemade desserts.

Prices are very reasonable and take out and delivery is available.

The Mediterranean-style restaurant, beautifully decorated with old family pictures, also serves some wonderful gourmet pizza.

Major credit cards are accepted. The cozy and comfortable restaurant is accessible to the physically challenged.
